Jasmine Duron is a proud mother, Oxnard School District parent, Certified Lead Peer Support Specialist, and longtime community advocate running for Oxnard School District Board of Trustees, Area 2.
Raised in Oxnard, Jasmine began her education as a student in the Oxnard School District. Her commitment to community leadership started early. While attending Pacifica High School, she served in student leadership through the Associated Student Body and School Site Council, where she gained an early understanding of the importance of student representation in school decisions.
Jasmine is the mother of two children who have received special education and mental health services through the school district. Supporting her children required her to navigate complex education, behavioral health, and social service systems while learning how to advocate effectively for their individual needs. Those experiences showed her how difficult it can be for families to understand their rights, find appropriate services, and have their concerns taken
seriously.
Rather than allowing those challenges to discourage her, Jasmine turned her lived experience into a commitment to help other families. As a Certified Lead Peer Support Specialist and Family Partner she draws upon her experiences navigating her own mental health challenges and supporting her children through theirs. She works alongside families to overcome barriers, access services, understand complicated systems, and develop the confidence to advocate for themselves and their children.
Jasmine has also worked as a Care Navigator and as an Advocacy and Community Impact Coordinator. Through these roles, she has supported families involved with behavioral health, developmental disability, education, juvenile justice, and other public systems. Her work has strengthened her ability to bring families, service providers, community organizations, and public agencies together to address barriers and improve outcomes.
A proud graduate of Ventura County’s community colleges, Jasmine earned associate degrees in General Liberal Arts and Human Services from Oxnard College and an associate degree in Business Management from Ventura College. Her education in human services and business management has prepared her to approach district decisions with both compassion and a practical understanding of organizational leadership, budgeting, and accountability.
For years, Jasmine has volunteered her time to help shape policies and programs within the Oxnard School District. She has served on the Parent Advisory Committee, Local Control and Accountability Plan Committee, Budget Advisory Committee, and Family and Community Engagement Committee. She has also held leadership roles in PTA and served on School Site Councils at multiple schools. These experiences have given her firsthand knowledge of district planning, budgeting, family engagement, student services, and school-site decision-making.
Jasmine’s candidacy is grounded in a lifetime of connection to Oxnard schools, as a former student, parent, volunteer, advocate, and professional serving local families. She understands the challenges families face because she has faced many of them herself. She also understands that families should not have to become experts in complicated systems simply to secure the education and support their children deserve.
As Trustee, Jasmine will work to protect students and classrooms during difficult budget decisions, support educators and staff, expand meaningful family participation, and build trust through accessibility, transparency, and accountability. She believes district plans should be developed with students, families, educators, and community members at the table before decisions are made.
Jasmine is running to ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive, every educator has the support needed to succeed, and every family’s voice is heard and valued.
